A friend told me this this morning now that I'm worn down, sick, and whiney. (A steroid shot should fix me up, though.) I do wish he had said something sooner, though.
I am having a problem making the main thing the main thing. Somehow I keep putting work before everything else. It comes before running, before sleep, and before working through my Understanding the Call workbook.
Focus...keep the main thing (God) the Main Thing!
The jerks won't win this one...love will!
Sleepily yours,
Elizabeth

John Wesley's Three Historic Questions for Candidates for Ministry
John Wesley is the founder of the movement in the Anglican Church
that became the United Methodist Church
Wesley had a series of three questions that those examining the men who felt that they were called to be pastors were required to answer about the applicant. I had to answer these questions about myself to present to the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPR) as part of the ordained ministry approval process by my local church. I was able to answer the first and third one fairly easily, but the second one gave me fits! I just couldn't make the questions go together. With a little help from "Fulfilling God's Call" and my mentor I think I got it in pretty good shape. I am sure that it will evolve as I go through the mentoring process with Mary Jane, but here's where I am now.
1. Do they know God as pardoning God? Have they the love of God abiding in them? Do they desire nothing but God? Are they Holy in all manner of conversation?
I have experienced true forgiveness and relief from guilt by God. I know the feeling of the weight of sin and guilt being lifted off by God’s hands. The love of God abides in me; I know this because God has enabled me to love those who have harmed me and to forgive them. This work can only have been accomplished by a loving God abiding in me. I desire to grow closer to God and to hear God’s voice in my every thought and action. I strive to speak to others with the same love, compassion, and care that God has for me.
2. Have they gifts, as well as evidence of God’s Grace, for the work? Have they a clear, sound understanding; a right judgement in the things of God; a just conception of salvation by faith? Do they speak justly, readily, clearly?
Examining and looking at the gifts that God has given me is difficult. Not every gift is a great personality trait. But these gifts have made me beloved of God. I’m silly, sarcastic, funny, joyful, happy, and sometimes, insecure. People trust me and open up to me, I am organized and a great planner, I am emphatic and compassionate, and I make people feel loved and cared about. I can see God’s Grace at work in me. I don’t deserve God’s love and forgiveness; but what I think I deserve is nothing compared to what God thinks I deserve. Of course I am saved by faith because that’s all I have to stand on; how could I ever earn something from God? I have to have faith that the gifts God has given me are useful and God has plans to use them in God’s Kingdom.
3. Have they fruit? Have they been truly convinced of sin and converted to God, and are believers edified by their service?
The fruit of the spirit is the work that I do bringing the Kingdom of Heaven to earth. I see evidence of this fruit when I care for and uplift others; when I show them how much God loves them by loving them as God loves me. I see fruit when the people I’ve loved, in turn love, care for, and uplift others. When we truly love our neighbors and we share the love of God with them we give them life; we bring them into the body of Christ.
I am converted to God. I have always known God and have felt God in my life; there has not been a moment, even in my darkest, saddest days that I believed that God wasn’t with me. I know that God has cried with me and celebrated with me. While I am convicted of sin I am thankful that God continues to forgive my sin. I share my story of love and forgiveness with others to help them understanding the nature of our loving and forgiving God. I pray that God gives me the Grace to know when to reach out to others who need to be loved; those that have been hurt by not only people but by churches teaching brokenness and hate.
These are pretty soul searching questions. They have really made me think about myself and my relationship with God. So, good job Rev. Wesley!

Elizabeth
Things Uniquely Methodist
Back in the days of the Circuit Rider in the Methodist Church, preachers had charges...it could be any number of congregations that were about a day's ride apart...he would ride his horse to the different congregations; ideally he would preach and serve communion monthly. The other Sundays the congregation would have meetings; possibly there was a lay speaker who filled in and ran the service (of course there was singing! Gotta sing in the Methodist Church!) Annually the charges would meet and go over the business of the charge (including things like how much each congregation would kick in to pay the preacher!). This was called a Charge Conference (everything is a Conference of some sort in the church!)
It's now the 21st century and United Methodist churches still hold annual Charge Conferences!
Ours at Canvas Community Church was today (Carter drove his car instead of riding a horse) and I was presented by Amy (our SPRC chairman) requesting the church's approval of my candicacy for ordained ministry. They approved me...so now I can check off another box on my list...only about 75,000 boxes to go!
Yours in Christ,
Elizabeth

Where to Start!
I started this blog to show case my Stampin' Up! business but sometimes the focus in life gets changed. I finally realized that the thing I had been yearning for was really a call to ordained ministry!
I will write more about my call later, but for now, I'm just kicking off the mentoring process with the delightful Rev. Mary Jane Cole! Tomorrow I am meeting with Amy as the SPRC chair (really whole committee) to discuss my answers to Wesley's Three Historic questions and hopefully have her endorse my candidacy.
Sunday I will go before the Church at the Charge Conference and ask for their support. Oh, and I have a ton of homework to get finished in two weeks!
Keep me in your prayers, please.
In Christ,
Elizabeth

I'm so behind!
I had great plans to blog all of this runcation stuff! Alas, I had forgotten how much time it takes to train for a half marathon! Between running, recovering from running, and planning to run, my brain has been taken over!
We are leaving on Friday morning. We will check in to our hotel and then walk over to the Disneyland hotel to check in, get our goodies, and shop the expo. On Saturday we are going to California Adventure park. Our plan is to be back to our room and in bed by 9 since we will have to get up before the crack of dawn to line up!
Then we race! I can't wait to race through the parks. The first six miles should fly by! I would love to get a picture with Snow White or any of the Dwarves. Jessica wants a picture with Cruella. I am going to take a "Happy Mother's Day" sign so we can take pics to send to our moms. After the race we will eat, shower, and nap (and probably eat again)! LOL
Then back to Disneyland! They will be open that night until midnight...so we should be able to totally wear ourselves out. Our shuttle picks us up at 6:15 Monday morning. We can sleep on the plane, right?
I'm super excited. I now know how Charlie feels before he goes to Texas to the Hotter'n Hell Hundred!
I'll do better blogging for the rest of the trip.
Joyful Running,
Elizabeth

Snow White Running Outfit
This Sunday Virginia came over to help me with my costume, er I mean running outfit for the Tinkerbell Half Marathon. It's just three weeks away! Jessica is going to be Cruella DeVille and I'm going to be Snow White. Kind of a good vs. evil thing! I found this blog with a super cute Snow White running outfit and GREAT directions. I went to Sparkle Athletics and bought a yellow sparkle skirt and a red sparkle cape. The prices are pretty good and it all got here super fast.
I ordered the remaining supplies from Amazon. Royal blue running top, white satin fabric, heavy weight interfacing, elastic, and red and light blue satin ribbon. I couldn't find the same brand in both colors and the red turned out to be a lot heavier and stiffer than the light blue...but as Virginia pointed out, I'm going to be running in it!
I had some time Sunday morning before my massage (hey, girls who run 13 miles NEED massages!) so I got started making the collar and cape piece. The first big hurdle was drawing the shape for the collar. I used her general measurements and a piece of Stampin' Up! grid paper. The first try was too flat, but the second one looked pretty good. I cut it out and pinned it to a double layer of the interfacing.
Stuff the cape inside the collar. Sandwich the curved edge of the cape in-between the curved edges of the collar and pin. Sew it together leaving a small opening so you can turn it right side out. Clip this edge also and turn it. Ta-dah, you have an almost cape! Now press it really well to smooth out the seams and fold in the part that's not sewn yet. Pin that together and sew it close to the edge.

I couldn't find the same brand in both colors and the red turned out to be a lot heavier and stiffer than the light blue...but as Virginia pointed out, I'm going to be running in it!
Here are the main players
Collar pattern on interfacing
After I cut out the interfacing to the size I wanted, I pinned it to a double layer of the satin fabric. I just cut the fabric the seam allowance (1/2") all of the way around.
Fabric and Interfacing
I just followed the interfacing directions and ironed it onto the back of the satin.
I decided to go ahead and sew the top edges and around the corners of the collar together. After sewing together clip the curved edges.
With a heavy heart I cut the tie off of the cape. I was afraid that if I left it on it would be too bulky and lumpy inside the collar. I guess it's permanent now...no super girl later using this cape.
Here's the cape with the tie cut off.
Now, things get mentally tricky (for me at least). You have to visualize how the cape will look when finished. The cape has to be INSIDE the collar (still turned wrong side out) so when you turn it it will be on the OUTSIDE.

Finished cape and collar!
I laid out the ribbons on another sheet of grid paper and cut them to the lengths as shown in the instructions. I cut elastic to fit my upper arms and sewed it in a circle.
Then I pleated the ribbon and pinned it to the elastic. I sewed the ribbons in a continuous piece...you could sew them one at a time, but doing it this way was faster and easier I think.
After Virginia got to my house (and after my fabulous massage!) we attached the ribbons to the tank top. It took some thinking...the instructions call for sewing the ribbons to the OUTSIDE of the tank top. It took a while to wrap our brains around this, but we realized that doing it that way not only hid the stitches but it made the ribbons poofey-er. We pinned them on and I tried it on a couple of times to be sure the spacing was right.
Ribbons pinned to outside of the tank.
Once I sewed the ribbons on both sides, we pinned the collar on and repositioned it a couple of times. I carefully took it off and then tacked it down at the front points using the sewing machine. It stood up fine on it's own and didn't need any more attachment than the two front spots.
Of course I had to try it all on! Here I am with the finished tank and the yellow sparkle skirt. I have a sparkly red sweaty band for my hair and yellow running shoes.
I think this Snow White can run!

Not Long Until the 2015 Tinkerbell Half Marathon!
Jessica and I ran our 11 mile run on Saturday. It was quite an adventure. Jessica's running tights ripped in the upper inside thigh area and the newly exposed thigh started rubbing. She ended up taking off one of her socks and stuffing it over the hole! Oh, the adventures that girl and I have!
I've become obsessed with reading Disneyland blogs, runDisney blogs, Princess Half Marathon blogs, Tinkerbell Half Marathon blogs...etc. Like this one with 15 Disneyworld tips (yes, I know they're different parks!), and this one about maximizing your time, and this one about running a runDisney race, and here's one about making a costume. See what I mean? It's easy to spend ALL of your time reading blogs!
Virginia is going to help me construct my costume on April 19th. That'll give me time to go on a short run in it to be sure it doesn't rub anywhere (or fall apart! LOL). I'm going to be Snow White. Here's the blog where I got my costume instructions. I'll post pictures when it's finished.

Easter Treats
I have a craft fair on the Saturday before Easter! Man, I hope everyone who comes needs Easter basket treats, because I have made some fabulous things!
These jelly bean treats are made with the long skinny treat bags. I used the bow builder punch and a little flower punched from glimmer paper. I was under a time crunch so I had to buy some stamps from Hobby Lobby. oops!
I made pink ones and green ones.
I had some long skinny treat bags left, so I put gingham pencils in some.
Hippity Hoppity here comes a cute pencil!
I found this bunny face bucket at Target in the dollar aisle.
I added ears and a pink bow. Look how cute!
A little chocolate bunny and some chocolate eggs and an Easter basket ready to go!
Rice Krispie Treats in cute packages using the tag topper punch.
Look at this! I love that bunny and the box has five chocolate bunnies inside!
Hopefully next Saturday will be nice out so people will come to the Farmer's Market and then stop by and visit the crafty stuff. If you're out, stop my Mugs Cafe and check us out.

Color Throwdown #332
I'm at Scrapbook Camp at the Arkansas 4-H Center this weekend. This is so wonderful, all of the time in the world to myself, projects to finish up, and time to do all of the challenges that I want!
I like the sound of a Color Throwdown! Seriously, I'm from the South, who here doesn't love a good throwdown? And a color throwdown? Sounds like something right up my alley!
I like the sound of a Color Throwdown! Seriously, I'm from the South, who here doesn't love a good throwdown? And a color throwdown? Sounds like something right up my alley!
Red, navy, turquoise, and khaki. (I'm pondering an outfit for Monday in these colors!)
I'm using Stampin' Up! colors: Real Red, Night of Navy, Coastal Cabana, and Sahara Sand.
Flowery Hello!
I stamped the Hardwood stamp (133035) in Baked Brown Sugar on the Sahara Sand card stock to add some visual interest. I stamped Blended Bloom (135906) on Whisper White card stock with Crumb Cake ink and colored it with the Coastal Cabana Blendabilities. I colored in the middle with the Baked Brown Sugar Stampin' Write Marker. Then I outlined each petal with the Stampin' Chalk Marker (132133), I outlined the middle also and added dots to the center.
I stamped the diagonal striped stamp from the Gorgeous Grunge set (130517) in Night of Navy and added a strip of Natural Chevron Ribbon (132982). I cut out the words "hello" and "You" from Real Red card stock using the Hello You Thinlits Dies (137363).
I moved the flower and words around a bunch of times and finally settled on this arrangement. I thought that the flower could use some umph, so I added a few pearls (119247) to the center of the flower.
I love this color challenge! It really made me stretch myself. At first all I could think was nautical, but I pushed myself to do something different. What do you think?

Friday Mashup #200!
I'm excited to participate in the Friday Mashup's 200th Challenge!
The challenge is to mashup your two favorite mashups! That's like a mashup squared!
I am mashing up Challenges FM1 and FM14. From FM1, I am using butterflies and from FM14, I am using flowers and vintage. Is this a mash up cubed? Click here for a list of the last 199 challenges.
I have been dying to make another journal. I thought a vintage feeling journal would be perfect!
I stamped two flowers and a butterfly from the Nature's Perfection stamp set (a new Sale-a-Bration product 139100). I colored one flower with the Daffodil Delight Blendabilities and the other with the Calypso Coral Blendabilities. I fussy cut them (it was quick and easy, mostly straight lines). I colored the butterfly with Daffodil Delight, Calypso Coral and Wild Wasabi Blendabilities. I wanted the purple color to be Blackberry Bliss, but unfortunately there's no Blendability set in that color. What to do? I colored first in the darkest shade of Wisteria Wonder and then colored over it with the lightest color of Rich Razzelberry. It was a perfect match! I punched out the butterfly with the Elegant Butterfly punch (127526).
I wanted a flowery banner down the side to give it a vintagey-feel (think Granny's curtains). I colored in the flowers from the Park Lane DSP (133694) with the same Blendability colors.

To add to the vintage feel, I sponged Crumb Cake ink (126975) on a White Tea Lace Paper Doily (129399). I used the the Hello You Thinlit Dies (137363) to cut the word "Hello" out of Blackberry Bliss Card Stock (133675). I tied some linen thread around the front cover of the journal (104199) and I'm done!
Who should I give this to??
Fun Challenge!

Simply Created: So You
The Simply Created kits are great because they have all of the things you need already in the kit! Just add stamps and ink!
I've been intrigued by the So You (Stampin' Up! Item 137951) kit. It's a mini scrapbook perfectly sized for Instagram photos. You need the So You stamps (137165), white Staz-on ink (106960), Mini Glue Dots (103683) , and the Daffodil Delight and Coastal Cabana Blendabilities. Unfortunately, the Blendabilities are on back order right now, but if you want to make this kit, I'll let you borrow mine (I'm just awesome that way!)
I used pictures from our trip to Leadership 2015 and Walt Disney World. Here's the cute cover:

I made about 12 pages; here are my two favorite pages.
I love the wash tape and star paperclip.
The stamps are great to highlight little memories. You stamp and embellish on window sheets, so you have a perfect surface for stamping.
I colored the silver sequins with blendabilities.
I love this picture of Kay. She's being launched at the start of the Rockin' Roller Coaster. Her advice to me was, "inhale on 3, 2, and 1, and then scream!" Obviously, she's following her own advice!
Send me pictures of what you make this weekend. I can't wait to see!

Little Rock Marathon 2015 - 10k Edition
ARRRRGH Matey!
Brrrrr, it's cold this year...and rainy! Actually, it was cold last year, too! Maybe this isn't the best time for a road race, Little Rock!
Since it was pirate themed we had to dress up! Obviously, we aren't serious runners (LOL). Jessica was dying to be a parrot. She bought a full body parrot costume! And yes, you can get a poncho on over a parrot costume.
I WAS going to be a mermaid. I ordered fish scale leggings and a green wig. The wig came, but the tights got stuck at the Port of Long Beach due to the strike. I kept hoping they would arrive. I even made a pink glitter shell bra t-shirt.

It took lots more glitter than this!
The day before the race, I decided to be a pirate! I actually had two unworn pirate costumes to work from. I used part of each and did surgery on one of them to make a skirt. One of the costumes came with a foamy pirate hat. I think it turned out well.
(I have no idea who that guy in the khaki pants is!)
We had fun, but boy do we have some training to do before the Tinkerbell Half in May!

Kindness
I was waiting for my printer! Argh! Forever!! Why do slow and unresponsive things drive me crazy?!? Obviously today's Lenten message was "chill, Elizabeth"!
So, while waiting on pictures of London to print (after reconnecting wi-fi on my slow desktop computer!) I thought I would do a QUICK challenge. I need to not spend hours on one card and let myself be ok with simple.
I went to Pink Buckaroo Designs to her Design Teams and Challenge page to find a simple challenge for this evening. She has them listed by day of the week, so it's easy to find the ones that are still open.
I decided on Clean & Simple, mostly because of the Simple part! Turns out they've been under the radar for a while and are starting back at their first sketch. How cool!
Here's the sketch.

Lately I've had fun picking out three or four colors from the Blendabilities lying on my craft table and making a card with those colors. Today I chose to use Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight, Smoky Slate, and Soft Sky. They looked really nice lying there all friendly like.
I stamped the larger butterfly from Kinda Eclectic in each of the four colors on a 1 3/4" square of whisper white and rounded one outside corner of each square. I used the diamond pattern stamp from the February Paper Pumpkin kit (thanks, Kay!) in Calypso Coral ON Calypso Coral cardstock in a stripe pattern to jazz up the background. I stamped the sentiment (also from Kinda Eclectic) in Smoky Slate and then tied some Bermuda Bay bakers' twine around the top. I centered my four squares between these two elements.
I'm don't usually stamp things off centered, but I like these "free" butterflies. This card took about 10 minutes. These would be great cards to do in a workshop!

Snowmageddon Day 3
Well...it snowed again today. I think I like my snow days like I like my cake. A piece at a time, not the whole cake in one day. And not all icing either! The Governor closed state offices (at noon).
It was pretty, but it didn't stick on the roads
Linda and I decided to keep working and go home after all of the Capitol area workers got home and the Interstates weren't congested. (We get to bank inclement weather time now!)
On Wednesdays, my church, Canvas Community Church, serves dinner and shows a movie to anyone who wants to stop by for a free meal and some fellowship. The guy in charge of cooking decided that due to the rapid snowfall, we should cancel. I thought, great, all day to stamp and tidy my craft room!
At 1:30 (during a discussion with my boss) Charlie called and wanted to know when I was leaving. Turns out they decided to have Dinner and a Movie after all and our help was needed!
i hurried home and we headed to Canvas. Justin was already there cooking and Chris showed up soon after.
Justin looking for a spoon.
Chris making coffee (we went through three pots!)
We went trough the bread box from Fresh Market and put out all of the baked goods and some cookies to go with the coffee.
Yummy!
We ended up making pork roast, mashed potatoes, and salad. Justing pulled bar-b-que pork and baked beans from the fridge, and Paul brought the remaining food from his day with the Board of Ordained Ministry (he passed and will be ordained in June!). We were pretty short handed for a while (with just Justin, Chris, Charlie, and me) so Elijah came back to the kitchen to help out. He had a great time and plans on helping next week!
We thought the crowd was going to be small and we would have plenty of food, but we ended up serving all of the food and giving out the sandwiches from Fresh Market. The only thing left was a little of Justin's bread pudding.
It was a cold, wet night and the line stayed long.
I was disappointed that I didn't get to spend the day stamping and I'm EXHAUSTED from being on my feet for five hours (kudos to waiters!), but I'm glad we decided to open. So many people were counting on us. Sometimes God gently reminds us of the plans he has for us.

I won!
At Leadership 2015 in Orlando last month, there were several design challenges. I made several cards and one journal. I entered in three categories.
I got an email today telling me that this journal that I designed won!
I got an email today telling me that this journal that I designed won!
I love this...and hate that I had to give it up!
I used the Adventure Awaits stamp set, Best Year Ever DSP, Hello Honey Ribbon, Paper Doilies, and the large journal.
That cute bow builder punch paper clip is the work of the fabulous Shelby Ingle!
I had fun making this and am so thrilled that I won! There were so many great entries in all of the categories. My competition was great and I'm honored to have been selected.

When Pigs Fly!
This week's Stampin' Celebration Challenge is an Inspiration Challenge. Here's the inspiration:
My first thought was the movie Up, wasn't yours, too?
I've been dying to use the Sale-a-Bration stamp that's the house that fits the arrow stamp. But I was looking around at the stuff on my table top and the pig from "From the Herd" looked so cute and a little startled...I thought he'd be perfect being taken up by a big bunch of balloons.
I went with the pastel colors from the inspiration picture. I used Daffodil Delight (126944), Blushing Bride (131172), Wisteria Wonder (126985), and Pool Party (126982) stamped on Whisper White (100730) with a base of Smoky Slate (131202).
I stamped eight balloons from three stamp sets: From the Herd (137162), Balloon Bash (137144), and Age Awareness (135381). I cut the balloons out (sometimes you just have to fussy cut!).
Two of each balloon for a total of eight.
I stamped the pig portion of the From the Herd stamp in Blushing Bride and cut him out too.
Isn't he cute?
I stamped the "Never Too Old to Party" stamp from the Hostess Set "Let Your Hair Down" (133940) in Wisteria Wonder and punched it out with the Extra-Large Oval Punch (119859).
I cut eight pieces of Bermuda Bay Baker's Twine (134575). I attached them to the back of the balloons...some with Stampin' Dimensionals (104430) and some with Fast Fuse (129026).
I attached the oval toward the bottom right and the balloons artfully flying toward the left top. I brought the strings down toward where I wanted the pig and trimmed them evenly. I put down a small bit of Fast Fuse under the ends of the baker's twine to hold them in place. Using Stampin' Dimensionals I placed the pig over the bundle of strings.
You know it's a party when pigs fly!
If you've never tried a challenge, then I encourage you to give it a shot. My biggest worry was linking it to my blog, but they've made it super easy!
My next step is getting better pictures. I just don't have good lighting for night time pictures.
Joyful Stamping,
Elizabeth

My first Sketch Challenge
Inspired by Shelby Ingle, I'm going to give a sketch challenge a try.
I'm participating in a sketch challenge at Freshly Made Sketches. Here's the sketch (FMS 174).

I continued my Smoky Slate, Calypso Coral, and Night of Navy (the lighter tones) color journey and made this card.
The card base in Calypso Coral (122925). I stamped the "eat cake" stamp from the One Tag Fits All clear stamp set (138583) in smoky slate and colored with the light tone of Night of Navy Blendabilities (131001) and the light tone of Calypso Coral Blendabilities (130996).
Using the circle thinlits (130911) and the Big Shot (113439) I cut out the stamped image and a circle of smoky slate card stock (131202) and stacked them using Fast Fuse (129026). I attached a strip of Marina Mist Chevron Ribbon (130016) on the diagonal across the card and put the stacked circles over it using Stampin' Dimensionals (104430).
For a little something extra, I added a few Gold (132983) and Bermuda Bay sequins (137910) using Glue Dots (103683).
It's a simple card, but sometimes you just need a quick birthday card; this fits that need pretty well. People will think you spent ages on it!

Colors in my Head
The other day three blendabilities were lying there on my table and they just looked so good together that I wanted to make a card with the colors. I sat with them a few days and they just kept talking to me.
These are the light smoky slate, dark calypso coral, and medium night of navy blendabilities.
Aren't they pretty together?
I had some precut smoky slate card bases, so I started there.
I colored the background with the night of navy and made a tag with calypso coral. I colored in the candles, but the black ones kind of overwhelmed the tag.
This one's ok, but I'm not in love.
So, I started another one. With these "parts".
I love these bird stamps. They are just adorable, and perfect to color with blendabilities.
Here's the finished product. I'm not sure if I should have just used one button, or maybe not tied the baker's twine in them. It looks a little busy.
Here are the two cards with the markers.
I'm not sure I've gotten these colors out of my head yet. I need a stamp with bigger spaces that I can color with the blendabilities. But for now I think I'm going to just sit with them.
Do you ever get colors stuck in your head like that? Post some pictures of your color stories.
Joyful Stamping,
Elizabeth
